4x4 Trips and Safaris in Africa
The Four Wheel Drive Club of Southern Africa organises a wide range of outings
throughout the year for club members. These 4x4 trips take in local and international venues and are an ideal way
to see Africa in an organised way that takes the chore of planning routes and making bookings out of your hands so that
you can simply 'arrive and drive'.
- These trips are only for members of the Four Wheel Drive Club of Southern Africa. Join

- Please note that details of events may change unavoidably and to avoid disappointment it
is necessary to confirm with the organiser that the event is still taking place, and where and at what time you should
meet to participate.
- All participants on an outing should have completed a driver training course for
four-wheel-drive vehicles.
- All vehicles must have proper recovery points at both the front and rear of the vehicle.
This should include both rope/shackle attachment points and Hi-Lift jacking points.
- Participants must have their own basic recovery equipment - recovery strap, shackles and
a Hi-Lift jack.
- While the fitting of 29 MHz two-way radios is not compulsory, it provides you with
entertainment, camaraderie and, above all, security when travelling in the convoy. For those reasons it is strongly
recommended that you have a radio if you wish to participate on a club outing. If
you do not want to purchase one, these radios may be hired from the club and fitted to your car without damage.
The moment you leave the tar road you must understand that scratches and dents can and
do happen, so you are driving at your own risk. No one will be forced to drive any particular obstacle, but there may be
no bypasses available, so be prepared.

These trips are only for paid-up members of the Four Wheel Drive Club of

Fri 14 - Sun 23 Jun - Extended Outing to Khwai River, Okavango
Delta, Botswana - Fully booked
 I don’t
believe I have to say much more about this part of the world other than it being one of the most sort after places
to visit. As all the camps in the Botswana National Parks have been privatised and become expensive, we will spend
our time at the community camp on the Khwai River which forms the Northern border the Moremi Game Reserve. The Khwai
river area is undoubtedly the best game viewing area I have ever been to. One can simply sit in your vehicle near
the river under a large tree and watch the animals and birds go about their daily lives. The trail can be done with
“soft-roaders” if they have enough ground clearance and rear diff lock, many river crossings and thick sand
being the only real challenges. Trailers and off-road caravans are also welcome. Duration: 10 Days / 3000km. All

Fri 09 - Mon 12 August - Extended Outing to the Khutse Game
Reserve, Botswana - Fully booked
 Khutse
Game Reserve is the smallest of Botswana's national reserves. Situated at the southern tip of the Central Kalahari
GR, it is set in typical Kalahari pan country and has always been a favourite destinations. This is a real gem in
Botswana's arsenal of national parks - the sheer remoteness, raptors like nowhere else, and (if lucky) more game
than you could wish for. On our trip last year we watched a male lion walk right through the main gate past
reception. his trip is an ideal “long weekend” just a day’s drive from Johannesburg. We will be camping at the
sites closest to the Molose waterhole in the western part of the park. This is a very sought-after area as the water
hole is permanent, and gives the best opportunity to see game and the camp sites also have great views over the
savannahs. This trip is suitable for trailers, the only real obstacle is soft sand. Duration: 4 Days / 3 Nights All
